You ever just need a word? Literally even one word from Jesus?

Because when a word is coming from Jesus, one simple word will reach the greatest depth of your being! It will resonate so deeply and produce a change! At our (Mission United International Church) annual retreat, Kingdom Generals, the Lord used a man of God to give a message to the young people, and he said, “You have one year to get it together” and  to “RUN!” That word, “RUN” just stood with me, in my mind, my heart, and my spirit! As the new year began, I needed to figure out what about that word was God saying to me.

“Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. 25 And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown. 26 Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air. 27 But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.” [1 Corinthians 9:24-27 NKJV]

I like how Apostol Paul said to “Run in such a way that you may obtain it” (verse 24). There is something about being intentional, it gives specific purpose to everything you do, it is the bridge to RESULTS! You can be one who is always on the move, yet no progress is being made (movement doesn’t mean progress). You can be so busy, yet nothing is being accomplished (business doesn’t mean effectiveness). You can live (breathe, complete daily activities, etc.) but it doesn’t mean you are living meaningfully (consisting of joy, peace, obtained goals, self fulfillment, etc.). If you think about a boxer punching at the air, it looks foolish, there is no purpose in it, no results will be obtained. This is the way we look sometimes in life. We need to be strategic and intentional in all we do because it will cause us to accomplish much.

However, the difficult thing about running is it takes endurance. According to and The Webster dictionary, endurance comes from the word, “endure” which means to “suffer (something painful or difficult) patiently”. Endurance means the fact or power of enduring an unpleasant or difficult process or situation without giving way. Running gets tiring, it takes stamina, and we are called to run this race, not with a mindset of competing against others but to intentionally go forward, to intentionally practice self discipline, and do this thing!

I believe the message behind “RUN 2018” is to be able to endure and to be intentional. I think many of us are going through an unpleasant or difficult process/situation. There are different magnitudes of earthquakes, but it doesn’t make any one less significant than the other. Like my Pastora says, “a punch is a punch.” But we need to ask the Lord for a spirit of endurance! To be able to endure the difficult process! To be able to run without giving way!  To be able to move forward without giving way! When we feel like we can’t run any longer, we need to be able to hear Jesus in our corner like a trainer screaming, “KEEP GOING, YOU GOT THIS!” I want to be the person today in your corner screaming at you, “YOU CAN DO THIS! YOU CAN ENDURE! YOU CAN RUN THIS RACE!”

We will reach the goal, we will reach others, we will produce results and not be disqualified in the interim, we got this!
